1st edition paperback, 286 pages, a clean crisp copy showing slight corner curl to the front of card covers, and a hint of shelf wear to closed page edges.  A very good copy with b&w photo illustrations and drawings throughout.

An intriguing account of a group of extraordinary people who were drawn to Glastonbury, (The Isle of Avalon,) at the beginning of the 20th century.  It tells of the discovery of a blue glass bowl in St Bride's Well which baffled British Museum experts, and of the involvement with the site of such people as Archdeacon Basil Wilberforce, A.E. Waite, Annie Besant and Wellesley Tudor Pole.

Other developments at Glastonbury included the first Glastonbury Festival in 1914, initiated by the composer Rutland Boughton with help from George Bernard Shaw.  The architect Frederick Bligh Bond carried out psychic investigations into the history of Glastonbury Abbey and Dion Fortune went there to write some of her best known works.

An in depth story of the area long before it became an attraction  for the youth of the 1960's and 70's; it's full of controversy and bizarre happenings.
