The publication of this work coincided with the centenary of Helena Blavatsky's Secret Doctine in 1888. Blavatsky was a co-founder of the Theosophical Society and is considered by many to be a pioneer of the New Age. Others denounced her as an impostor, charlatan, or a spy for her native Russia.
Jean Overton Fuller has cast her erudite eye on the evidence for Blavatsky's achievements and in the process has accessed Russian language material and the archives of the London Society for Psychical Research. She has been obliged to reject as spurious some 'Blavatsky' letters published by the Theosophical Society, but has uncovered the real authorship of the 'Coulomb' letters which attempted to implicate Mme Blavatsky in fraud.
Fuller also throws new light on the identities of HPB's teachers, and their relationship to Tibetan Buddhism.
