Reprint hardback,  no dj, 258 pages, b & w diagrams and photos throughout the text.   Gilt titles to spine; hard covers are a little faded and age discoloured, a few small  areas on the front cover show colour loss.  Internally still bright and clean, a little light foxing to closed page edges, but overall a nice copy for a book that was published in 1938.  Front end paper has two names neatly inscribed  + Eton, March 1938'

Jeans describes the scientific principles of musical sound in a precise, non-technical way that will engage both amateur and serious musicians. Topics include development of human hearing, general properties of sound curves, transmission and reproduction of sound curves, methods of producing sound, and harmony and discord.
