1st edition hardback, 286 pages, 10 b&w photos. No dj, previous owner's inscription on fep. Some light spotting to end papers and closed page edges, and very occasionally within text. Dk blue cloth covers are a little rubbed at corners and spine ends, spine slightly faded, but uniform colour overall and a very good copy for its age.
These letters were written to a friend at irregular intervals throughout the Second World War when the writer was Commander-in-Chief, Portsmouth, and later, Chief of Naval Information and M.P. for Portsmouth North.
In each letter Sir William reviewed the progress of the war and commented on current affairs; so, collectively, they constitute a brief history of the War up to the defeat of Germany, in an original form.''
