1st edition thus, trade paperback, 304 pages. A very good clean copy, no marks or inscriptions, small scuff on front cover where (sticky price label?) has been removed. Cover otherwise showing minimal handling/shelf wear, commensurate with age. (pub 1988).
In his foreword, John Ashbery states:
'The English language is constantly trying to stave off an invasion by the American language; it lives in a state of alert which is reflected to some degree in English poetry.......Lee Harwood's English is like American English in that it lacks a strong sense of possession. At the same time it has a pearly, soft-focus quality one rarely sees in American poetry, and which I associate with poets like Wordsworth and Arnold.....'
'These are poems of an absolute lucidity and great beauty. At times there are resemblances to Borges, without the elements of the baroque.' - SUNDAY TIMES
