1st thus, Purnell Book Services edition, 208 pages,54 b&w photo illustrations. Hard covers very good, dj a little rubbed at edges but otherwise vg. Internally clean and tight. Overall a very nice copy. An account of the U-Boat war against the Atlantic convoys, which brought crucial supplies of food, arms and men to Britain, especially between September 1939 and May 1943. Every gallon of petrol burnt in the skies over England during the Battle of Britain came to England in ships, and the Anglo-American landings in North Africa were launched from ships convoyed through the U-Boats. Churchill himself stated at one stage 'The only thing that ever really frightened me during the war was the U-Boat peril.' Captain Macintyre's account was writen with the full co-operation of the Admiralty and with access to historical records. Many of the numerous photos were taken in action.
