1st edition, 4th imp, small hardback. 20 wood engravings by Marie Huntley who co authored this charming, pre second world war study of Yorkshire's West Riding . 9 half tone illustrations and two maps and plans. Hard covers in very good condition for their age, just some bumping to spine ends and light shelf wear to bottom edges. Contents clean and unmarked, faint age browning to pages, no inscriptions or damage. Dust jacket is generally good except for a piece missing from the top edge, c. 1.25 x 0.5 " max. Corners and spine chipped; not price clipped. Now in protective vinyl cover. This was one in a series of books on the Yorkshire Dales by Ella Pontefract and Marie Hartley. A contemporary reviewer wrote : " This book, adorned with wood-engravings and photographs, is a very thorough piece of work. The authors write as if they knew and loved every farm and beck in the dale, and their sober, clear descriptions present a faithful record of a special bit of English life as it was yesterday and is to-day."
