The Taruschios' restaurant near Abergavenny has long been famous for the excellent cuisine from locally sourced ingredients and was named by Elizabeth David as her favourite British restaurant.
As Jan Morris says in her introduction:
'I tried to analyse the cuisine once, by identifying the origins of a particular night's menu, and found a Belgian soup, a Thai way of doing Dover sole, a fish soup from Ancona, a Sicilian cheesecake, Scandinavian gravlax, English partridge, Malakoff torte, Welsh salted duck and Italian-Jewish home cured beef. But all is given a distinctive unity by Franco Taruschio's cooking, which food critics universally agree to be unique.'
