1st thus? Small format, (4"x5") board covers, top edge gilt, 141 hand cut pages. Boards show the general wear of 100+ years. Top edge is gilt, side and lower edges are hand cut. Corners are a little worn and some foxing to end papers, but finely printed text is clean and bright. Printed at the Astolat Press, Guildford, comprises 47 poems by Abraham Cowley, with a preface by Dr. Sprat, Bishop of Rochester which prefixed the 1st edition of 1669 Cowley was much praised in his lifetime but after his death and burial in Westminster Abbey, he lapsed into obscurity
