1st edition hardback, small format, 88 pages incl bibliography; b&w photos throughout text. A very good clean copy in similar dj. Dj is a little scuffed inside front flyleaf where the original price label was removed, remnants of sticky label No previous owner marks, internally clean and crisp. On the 10th June 1944 the village of Oradour-sur-Glane, in the Haute Vienne, was surrounded by German soldiers of the Waffen SS. The inhabitants were rounded up and brutally massacred, most of the women and children were burned alive in the church. This was one of the most pointless and inexplicable Nazi atrocities and Philip Beck sets out to analyse and explain the awful events of that day, trying to discover how ordinary soldiers could be induced to murder so many innocents in cold blood and in such an agonizing manner.
