Includes such techniques as Assisi work, Applique, Bargello, Blackwork, Hardanger and Patchwork, Machine Embroidery, Net Embroidery, Pulled-thread work, Smocking, Whitework...to give just a selection. Each stitch is shown with step-by-step instructions and there are over 800 accompanying diagrams, drawn by the author. There are 12 colour photos of finished items, using various techniques. There is a wealth of practical information on designing, blocking, and mounting, the choice of fabrics and threads, equipment required and conservation of the finished item. The author has also provided 6 projects for the reader, covering different aspects of stitchwork. An invaluable reference book and source of inspiration for the embroiderer. The author is an authority on all forms of embroidery, having travelled widely gathering information on stitchwork techniques. She has a number of other books to her credit, and lectures and broadcasts on her subject.
